Stars avoid shutout thanks to Burish goal

  •

--Right wing Adam Burish's goal late in the third period kept the Stars from being shut out for the first time in 12 games. The last time Dallas failed to score was in a 1-0 loss at St. Louis back on Jan. 16. For the season, the Stars have been shut out only five times.

--After a 3-1 loss in Detroit on Tuesday, which was the Red Wings' NHL-record 21st straight win at home, the Stars finished the year 0-3-1 against the denizens of Hockeytown. The lone point the Stars got out of the four-game series this season came on Jan. 17, a 3-2 overtime loss in Dallas. The last time Detroit swept the season series with the Stars came in the 2003-04 season, when the Wings again were 3-0-1 against Dallas.

--Dallas was outshot 37-21 in Tuesday's loss at Detroit, which makes them 16-15-2 this season when being outshot. For the season, the Stars have outshot their opponent just 16 times compared to being outshot in 33 games.

--Detroit's Henrik Zetterberg scored on the power play 7:57 into the opening period of Tuesday's game at Joe Louis Arena, ending a run where Dallas had killed off all eight Red Wing power plays this season.

However, after Zetterberg's power-play goal in the first period, the Stars' penalty kill proceeded to kill off each of Detroit's next four power plays, making the Dallas PK 4-for-5 for the game.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"I thought we had some really good chances out there. Ribbie hit a post and some other guys had some really good chances. Yeah, we didn't have as many shots as we wanted, but we have to keep working at it. There's still a lot of games left." -- Stars RW Loui Eriksson, on Tuesday's 3-1 loss at Detroit.
