Schultz called up for 1 game ... to watch

  •

--The Canadiens called up forwards Ian Schultz and Ryan White from the Hamilton Bulldogs, but both players were healthy scratches. Coach Randy Cunneyworth said he was concerned that both might be tired after playing three games in three nights with Hamilton. Schultz was looking forward to making his NHL debut, but it will have to wait. While he collected his NHL salary of $7,400 for watching from the press box, he was returned to Hamilton after the game.

--General manager Pierre Gauthier is beating the bushes looking to make a deal. He was in Philadelphia on the weekend and Monday he was in Washington to see the Capitals play the San Jose Sharks, who have expressed interest in Travis Moen. The problem is that Moen is back on the sidelines with an upper-body injury. The suspicion is that Moen has concussion-like symptoms and that will make him difficult to move.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"At certain times, we were looking for better matchups. There was a little bit of that but we were also looking for bigger efforts." -- Canadiens coach Randy Cunneyworth on the decision to bench Andrei Kostitsyn and Scott Gomez for most of the third period.
