Back end of back-to-backs continues to net positive results

  •

--The Sharks improved to 6-2-1 in the second of back-to-back games this season with their 5-3 victory at Washington after falling 3-0 in St. Louis the night before. San Jose has the second best of any Western Conference club (Red Wings are 8-3-0).

--F Tommy Wingels was activated from injured reserve on Monday and inserted into the lineup at right wing on the second line alongside LW Ryane Clowe and C Joe Pavelski. Wingels was on IR for nine games after sustaining a shoulder injury. Wingels was scoreless with two shots on goal and was credited with one hit and a faceoff victory during 8:08 of ice time spread over 12 shifts.

--Including Monday's 5-3 victory in Washington and a 5-2 shellacking at HP Pavilion on Jan. 7, the Sharks have won five straight against the Capitals overall, outscoring them by a combined 20-9 in the process. San Jose is 16-1-0-0 since 1999-00 against the Capitals -- best of any team in the NHL.

QUOTE TO NOTE
-- "We get some rest now. We go into Tampa and that's our next focus. We're not talking about how long, and we're not talking about who we play after. It's rest in Tampa and we'll worry about everything else later on." -- Coach Todd McLellan on his team's attitude going to stop No. 3 of the season-high nine-game trip.
