Anderson, Ottawa continue to dominate Florida

  •

There are a few things the Florida Panthers cannot do.

They cannot win four straight games. They also cannot beat the Ottawa Senators.

On Wednesday night, the Panthers once again failed to do either of those things as Ottawa beat host Florida 6-2 by scoring three times in the second to chase starter Scott Clemmensen. Former Panthers goalie Craig Anderson is a big reason the Senators have dominated Florida of late. Anderson, who is in his second season with the Senators, is 7-0-1 against the Panthers.

Ottawa has won nine straight against the Panthers and five straight at Bank Atlantic Center. Florida has just one point (0-8-1) in those nine games and is just 5-17-1 against Ottawa since the start of the 2006-07 season.

"We just need to make sure we don't make it 10 straight the next time we play them," Shawn Matthias said.

The loss ensured that the Panthers' failure to win four straight games would continue. Florida hasn't won four consecutive games since late in the 2008 season.

Florida will try to get back to its winning ways Friday when the Capitals come to South Florida. The Panthers hold a four-point lead on Washington in the Southeast Division and would like a little more separation. Washington beat Florida 4-0 last week.

The Panthers are 5-3-0 since the All-Star break.

"We're just going to try and keep playing the way we've been playing," Stephen Weiss said. "It's nice to be playing big games at this time of the year."
