Alfredsson feels bad, but not that bad

  •

--RW Daniel Alfredsson says he feels guilty every time he hears the name Kevin Dineen, the Florida Panthers coach who was his teammate with the Senators back in the 1999-2000 season.

"He's an outdoorsman, too, and we set up a hunting trip," Alfredsson said before Wednesday's game. "He was up at 4 a.m. I think, and I slept in. We ended up not going. So I always feel guilty when I hear his name."

Alfredsson threw some salt in any wound Dineen might still have when he scored a second-period shorthanded goal that put the Senators in firm control of the game. It was his 20th of the season, marking the 13th time he has hit the mark.

--D Brian Lee had the first multi-point game of his career with two assists, then breathed a sigh of relief, along with the rest of his teammates, after the 6-2 win over Florida. It was the second win for the Senators on the annual Fathers Trip. They beat Tampa 4-0 the night before and, in three years, have a 5-0-1 record with the dads accompanying them on the road. "I think the guys wanted to work hard and play well so we didn't get too much grief from our dads on the way home," cracked Lee.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"I knew if I could stay healthy I could get to 20. Hopefully, I can keep pushing and -- who knows? -- maybe even flirt with 30." -- RW Daniel Alfredsson, the 39-year old captain who has bounced back from back surgery to hit the 20-goal plateau.
