Still no help from the referees
--The Penguins have been vocal critics of how officials have called games during the past few weeks, and they weren't particularly pleased about receiving only one power-play opportunity during a 2-1 loss to Anaheim on Wednesday at Consol Energy Center.
Defenseman Kris Letang said referees are "calling the game differently" than when he entered the league and that stick fouls are no longer being called with any consistency. The Penguins would prefer penalties be called, given how terrific their special teams are. They entered the game against Anaheim ranked third in the league in penalty killing and fifth on the power play.
--Little is known regarding when center Sidney Crosby will return to the lineup. He continues to skate at Consol Energy Center on an almost daily basis. Crosby generally has skated before practice or, when ice hasn't been readily available, he has skated with the team. However, he has decided to change up his routine, skating at 1 p.m. following each of the past two practices. Crosby is believed to still be dealing with headaches, albeit minor and irregular ones.
QUOTE TO NOTE
"They never let us get to our game tonight. Our first period was OK. But they never let us get into any flow. It was a frustrating game for us tonight, no doubt about it." -- D Matt Niskanen on the loss to Anaheim on Wednesday.
