Yeo embarrassed by injury-plagued season

--During the Wild's early hot streak, coach Mike Yeo's expectations raised with all Minnesota. That's why he's embarrassed the team didn't make the playoffs.

"I'm very proud of a lot of things that I've done and every day I'm extremely proud to coach this organization and to work for the people that I work for and to coach the group of guys that I coach, but ... I'm embarrassed," he said. "The bottom line is we didn't make the playoffs. I'm not naive. I know it's hard to make the playoffs. And I know we had injuries and everything. But to me, my job is to get us through that.

"To be honest with you, I feel like I let people down. I hate losing. I love winning and I hate losing probably even more than that. A lot of times when we were losing games, you don't even want to go in public."

--The Wild suffered almost 400 man games due to injury this season.

"It's not so much how many man games we lost, but the timing," C Matt Cullen said. "We lost Butch (Pierre-Marc Bouchard), Gui (Guillaume Latendresse), Mikko (Koivu) and Seto (Devin Setoguchi) all at the same time (in December) -- four out of our original top-6. That's a pretty tough hill to climb.

"But great teams figure out a way to get through it. We didn't, and I guess that's part of the growing here."

"The message that will be conveyed is we're close, but we're not there yet. I don't think any of us deserve to go on vacation right now. We're not making the playoffs, but believe me, our staff, we're not going on holidays." -- Coach Mike Yeo on the fourth consecutive missed postseason.
