The Philadelphia Flyers have signed coach Peter Laviolette to a multi-year contract extension, the team announced Wednesday.

The new deal is for two years, according to CSNPhilly.com, and lasts through the 2014-15 season.

"We are thrilled to have Peter continue his work with our group as we push to compete for the Stanley Cup," Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said in a statement. "Peter has done a terrific job for us and is very deserving of this extension."

Laviolette took over in the 2009-10 season, compiling a 122-73-26 record. During that three-season run, the Flyers are the only team to advance to the second round of the playoffs each year.
