--D Lubomir Visnovsky filed a grievance with the NHL through the Players' Association to void his draft-night trade to the Islanders, claiming that he had a valid no-trade clause in his existing contract. Visnovsky was acquired from Anaheim on June 22 for a second-round draft pick and reportedly filed his grievance on June 30 although it was not revealed publicly until several weeks later.
"(Isles GM Garth Snow) has been great to him, they've had good conversations and Lubo likes what he's heard about how they want to use him," agent Neil Sheehy told Newsday. "But this has really nothing to do with the Islanders. For Lubo, this is about establishing what's right and whether a team has the right to move him in the manner that they did. ... This is not a New York Islanders issue."
--The Islanders named 42-year-old Scott Pellerin as head coach of their AHL Bridgeport affiliate. He has been an assistant coach with AHL Manchester for the last six seasons.
"Scott brings tremendous experience to our organization, from not only coaching, but also his playing career," GM Garth Snow said. "Over the past six seasons with the Manchester Monarchs, he has developed numerous prospects into everyday NHL players, including current Islander Matt Moulson. We look forward to seeing that continuing trend with our young prospects."
