Flames re-sign Ference, Betts

CALGARY, Alberta -- The Calgary Flames re-signed defenseman Andrew Ference and forward Blair Betts on Tuesday.

In 38 games with Pittsburgh and Calgary last season, Ference had a goal and seven assists with 42 penalty minutes. Calgary acquired Ference on Feb. 10, 2003 for a conditional draft choice.

In nine games with Calgary, Betts had a goal and three assists. He added six goals and seven assists in 19 games with the team's AHL affiliate in Saint John.

"Andrew and Blair both expressed a great deal of interest in playing in Alberta," Flames general manager Darryl Sutter said of the two Edmonton natives. "These signings are an important part of the structuring of our team by building with young players."
