Assistant coach leaves Penguins to take over WHL's Blades

PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Penguins assistant coach Lorne Molleken resigned Friday to become coach and general manager of the Saskatoon Blades of the Western Hockey League.

Molleken first coached Saskatoon from 1991-95 and was the league's coach of the year in 1994. He later coach of the Chicago Blackhawks and was later an assistant with the San Jose Sharks.

Molleken led the Blades to a 170-101-17 record and reached the Memorial Cup finals in 1992 and '94.

Molleken returned to the NHL as an assistant under Eddie Olczyk, who became coach of the Penguins last season.
