Flyers' Burke scheduled for surgery on hip cartilage

PHILADELPHIA -- Philadelphia Flyers goalie Sean Burke will have surgery Tuesday to repair torn hip cartilage.

Burke, an unrestricted free agent who saw little action as Robert Esche's backup this season, had been bothered by the hip all season. An MRI exam revealed the torn cartilage.

The injury is similar to Esche's, who had successful surgery on his hip and could be ready to play for Team USA in the World Cup of Hockey in September.
