Penguins re-sign C Pirjeta after strong post-trade finish

PITTSBURGH -- Forward Lasse Pirjeta re-signed with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday.

Pirjeta performed well after the Penguins picked him up in a late-season trade with the Columbus Blue Jackets for Brian Holzinger. The center had six goals and six assists in 13 games with the Penguins after the trade.

Pirjeta had two goals and eight assists in 57 games with the Blue Jackets.

He came to Columbus during the 2002-03 season after playing with teams in Finland and Sweden since 1992.

In 121 NHL games, Pirjeta has 19 goals and 24 assists with 32 penalty minutes.

Terms of Pirjeta's contract were not immediately disclosed.
