Red Wings give D Fischer three-year contract extension

DETROIT -- The Detroit Red Wings re-signed restricted free agent defenseman Jiri Fischer on Monday to a three-year contract.

Terms of the deal weren't released.

"Jiri is a young and very talented player who is a big part of our future," Red Wings GM Ken Holland said. "We're happy to have him signed."

Fischer, 24, was drafted by Detroit with the 25th pick in the 1998 draft. He has eight goals and 44 assists in 283 games with the Red Wings.
