DENVER -- Colorado Avalanche forward Milan Hejduk will miss the start of the NHL season after undergoing surgery on his right knee.
"The procedure went really well and a full recovery is expected," Colorado trainer Matt Sokolowski said on Tuesday.
Hejduk will be out for at least four weeks, the team said. The NHL season begins on Oct. 5.
Hejduk, who led the NHL in scoring with 50 goals in 2002-03 and the Avalanche with 35 goals in 2003-04, had not skated since Friday's intrasquad game -- when he hurt the knee.
During the NHL lockout, Hejduk underwent surgery on his right knee. He injured it while playing for Pardubice of the Czech League, where he scored 25 goals in 48 games.
