DENVER -- The Colorado Avalanche recalled Kazakhstan goaltender Vitaly Kolesnik from their American Hockey League affiliate in Lowell, Mass., on Tuesday.
Kolesnik was 10-0-8 at Lowell with a 2.80 goals-against average, .916 save percentage and two shutouts.
The move gives the Avalanche another option after Switzerland's David Aebischer and Slovakia's Peter Budaj. Aebischer, the team's opening-day starter, has struggled of late. He allowed four goals in the first period on Sunday and was pulled at the start of the second. He also allowed three goals in the second and third periods of a 5-2 loss to Vancouver last Friday.
Aebischer is 11-6 with a 3.37 goals-against average.
