RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Carolina Hurricanes reassigned goaltender Cam Ward on Wednesday to their American Hockey League affiliate in Lowell for a conditioning stint.
The team recalled Kevin Nastiuk to replace Ward on the roster.
Team president and general manager Jim Rutherford said Ward would play in two or three games this weekend and return to the Hurricanes on Monday.
Ward hasn't started for Carolina since Dec. 3. The rookie has played in 13 games and has a 6-3-1 record, a 4.05 goals-against average and an .865 save percentage.
Nastiuk is 1-5-2 in eight games with the Lock Monsters this season. He has a 3.27 goals-against average and a .902 save percentage. Nastiuk attended Carolina's training camp before being assigned to Lowell on Sept. 22.
