Gentlemen, start your engines!

Oops, wrong sport, but the right idea for NHL teams that come back from a two-week Olympic break and can't waste any time kicking it into high gear for the season's homestretch.

There are seven weeks and about a third of the 82-game schedule left for each team before the playoffs begin, and after five months of play, a host of scenarios remain possible.

Certainly there has been no clear Stanley Cup favorite to emerge, while five of the division title races and both conference crowns are wide open. At the other end, a half dozen teams are still in the hunt for the last two or three playoff spots in each conference.

And the trade deadline is March 9, so things will be intense from here on in. The biggest challenge may be staying healthy and not running out of gas.
