To Oilers fans, Pronger returning to scene of a crime

So it was a fair deal, although it seems like a lot of folks in Edmonton don't really care, not for the moment anyway, judging by local media coverage over the past few days. The city was a bit embarrassed by the number of revelers arrested in popular downtown areas during last spring's playoff run, and there have been suggestions that emotions are running just as high for Pronger's return.

It has prompted several Oilers, including coach Craig MacTavish and Lupul, to appeal for reason. MacTavish said everyone on the team understood the business part of the situation, while Lupul said he hoped fans wouldn't cross the line.

"I can understand how fans can feel a little bit betrayed, but hopefully they'll be able to look past it and just enjoy the game," Lupul told the Edmonton Sun. "(Pronger's) going to have a tough night, no question. Hopefully people try and keep it within the boundaries of good taste."

That wasn't a problem the first time these teams met a month ago in Anaheim, when the Ducks won 6-2. But with the season now beyond its quarter pole, a clearer picture about teams is beginning to emerge, and it's conceivable the Ducks and Oilers might have a conference finals rematch this spring. In other words, things could get just as heated on the ice as in the stands.

And Pronger doesn't mind.

"You know the fans will be on you, so it's never easy," he said after Sunday night's game. "We'll see how it goes.

"It'll be nice to go up there and enjoy the crowd."

Maybe.
