Line 1: Ryan Callahan-Brandon Dubinsky-Carl Hagelin
The Rangers have spent a lot of money in free agency over the years, but they've done a pretty good job developing their own players within the organization, especially when it comes to some of the forward spots. Callahan and Dubinsky were second and fourth round selections in 2004, while Hagelin was a sixth round pick in '07.
Line 2: Artem Anisimov-Derek Stepan-Chris Kreider
They're young (and cheap) but you could certainly do worse for a No. 2 scoring line, at least when it comes to potential. All three players were at one time or another mentioned in trade rumors with Columbus to get Rick Nash, and in the end it was Anisimov that ended up going the other way.
Line 3: Lauri Korpioski-Dominic Moore-Nigel Dawes
This line might be a little better than people might realize at first glance. Moore has always been a strong checking line center that can win a lot of face-offs, and Dawes seems like the type of player that could help somebody on its bottom six if he would just get a chance.
Offensive scratch: Manny Malhotra
Things are certainly interesting when Michael Del Zotto is on the ice because he's either going to do something that results in a Rangers goale … or do something that results in the Rangers giving up a goal. Marc Staal is coming off a bit of a down year, but he's still a very good top-four NHL defenseman.
Both players came out of the 2001 draft. Tyutin was sent to Columbus in the trade that resulted in the forgettable Nikolai Zherdev experience in New York. Zidlicky never had a chance to play for the Rangers as he was traded to Nashville for Tomas Kloucek and Mike Dunham.
Defensive scratch: Michael Sauer
Goaltenders: Henrik Lundqvist - Al Montoya
A nice look at just how crazy and unpredictble it is when you try to draft a goalie. Al Montoya was the No. 6 overall pick in 2004. He would make an OK backup today. Henrik Lundqvist went 205th overall in the 2000 draft. He's one of the best goalies in the league.
