News
The Sports Xchange reports twenty-three games now and Wild center James Sheppard has yet to score a goal during a season he was supposed to break out under a new offensive-minded coach. This is why left wing Colton Gillies, who played 45 games last season as a 19-year-old, is in the minors. The Wild doesn't want Gillies to follow in Sheppard's footsteps. "I told him after camp, 'Don't sit by the phone whenever there's an injury and wait for a call-up,'" Wild GM Chuck Fletcher said. "We don't want to just bring him up for a game here or two games there and send him down. We think mentally that would be even harder on him. The goal has been for him to go down there, get a lot of ice time, play special teams and play in a lot more situations than he could here at this stage of his career. When he comes back, we want him to have a real good chance to be here for the rest of his career."

It was his team-leading ninth goal and sixth on the power play.

News
Chuck Kobasew had a hat trick and Andrew Brunette scored the winning goal on a power midway through the third period Friday, leading the Minnesota Wild past the Colorado Avalanche 5-3. In his second game back after missing the previous four with an upper-body injury, Kobasew set up his first goal early in the second. He knocked Kyle Quincey off the puck -- and his skates -- with a hit in the right circle. Enforcer Derek Boogaard corralled the loose puck, skated below the goal line and backhanded a pass to Kobasew alone in the slot where he beat Craig Anderson on the stick side. After Paul Stastny scored on a rebound to tie the game, Kobasew took a feed from Andrew Brunette and again beat Anderson from the slot for a 3-2 Wild lead at the six-minute mark. Kobasew added an empty-net goal with 17.9 seconds left to complete his second career hat trick.

The Sports Xchange reports Wild C Andrew Ebbett, playing for his third team in six weeks, knows he's running out of lives. He can't afford to be put on waivers again. "I'm definitely very thankful to have this opportunity, but now I've got to make the best of it," said Ebbett, who started the season in Anaheim and ended up in Chicago. "If it happens again, I don't know if too many teams take that chance. It's desperation-mode for me, and I've got to be the best of this so it doesn't happen again." He scored his first career shootout goal on his first-ever attempt Saturday.
