The Colorado Avalanche participate in the National Hockey League
(NHL) and are based in Denver, Colo. Colorado is a member of the
Northwest Division of the Western Conference. The Avalanche, who
joined the league as the Quebec Nordiques in 1979 and moved to
Colorado in 1995, play home games at Pepsi Center and have won 2
Stanley Cups (1996, 2001).
