The Jackets have won four of their last five games and new acquisition Seth Jones is thriving. He has seven assists in 13 games and is averaging over 24 minutes a game. That deal's impact should be felt for years to come in Columbus.
Back-to-back wins over the Canadiens before the break bring some positive vibes to the club, but the road ahead remains long. It's up to management to take this unfortunate season and somehow turn it into a positive. Acquiring Seth Jones was a good start.
Sergei Bobrovsky can't stay healthy. Heck, even coach John Tortorella can't stay healthy as he fell and broke some ribs in practice last weekend. With each game, this disaster of a season gets one step closer to ending, though they did pull off a nice win over Montreal Monday night.
The Jackets are a point away from climbing out of the league basement for the first time in a while thanks to a 4-3-1 record in their last eight games. It will be interesting to see if GM Jarmo Kekalainen has anymore trades up his sleeve with the future in mind.
The team landed Seth Jones by trading away Ryan Johansen. Now it looks like they have that cornerstone defenseman they've lacked for years. The real key now is trying to build a better team around that cornerstone. They should have a nice high draft pick to help.
There haven't been many positives for the Blue Jackets this season, but back-to-back wins over the top two teams in the league sure is nice. Additionally, Brandon Saad has seemed to have found his footing in Columbus. He has 11 points over his ongoing seven-game scoring streak.
The Blue Jackets' season seems to be irreparably sputtering. Now the question becomes, is this season bad enough to force management to pull the trigger on trading away one or more of the team's supposed core players? It just might be because this surely isn't working.
It's been a strange week for the Blue Jackets, with Ryan Johansen rumors swirling and the team still not putting many wins together. A rout a the hands of a Sidney Crosby-less Penguins had to sting a bit.
Columbus is 3-3-1 in its last seven games, but they've also played a particularly tough schedule. Meanwhile, John Tortorella continues to push buttons as he recently made leading scoring Scott Hartnell a healthy scratch.
The Jackets have collected 10 wins under fiery coach John Tortorella and have won 6 of 9. Sergei Bobrovsky and Ryan Johansen have looked like the stars their team needs them to be lately, too.
Preseason Power Rankings
The Blue Jackets still should be better than they were last year, but they're going to have to overcome a disappointing 0-3-0 start. After all the optimism surrounding the club this summer, this may be a bit of a shock.
