After rattling off nine straight wins before the streak ended against the Rangers, the Jackets showed that this organization has life. They'll also have reinforcements next year with a cadre of young players ready to make an impact.
They can't make the playoffs, but my goodness, are the Jackets looking deadly right now. They've won 10 of their last 12, which includes victories over Anaheim, Calgary, Chicago, St. Louis and Detroit, among others. What could have been ...
Amazingly enough, the Blue Jackets have won their last six on the road and seven of their last nine overall. Rookie forward Marko Dano has been a real breath of fresh air and should have Jackets fans excited for the future.
The Jackets can turn their focus to the offseason and one of their top priorities should be signing prospect Mike Reilly, a star defenseman at the University of Minnesota, who will be eligible for unrestricted free agency if he doesn't sign with Columbus. He could help as early as next year.
More injuries have taken their toll on the Blue Jackets roster, just like they have all season long. The nightmare is almost over. Only 17 more games to go before this team can hit the reset button and find a witch doctor to lift the curse.
Taking on David Clarkson's contract probably wasn't ideal, but with Nathan Horton hurt, they can at least pay someone to play now. The Jackets also got a nice haul for dealing James Wisniewski. Keep an eye on William Karlsson, who came back in that trade.
The Blue Jackets appear to have resigned themselves to sell mode as top-four defenseman James Wisniewski is reportedly being shopped. If they do sell, they shouldn't sell too much as they hope for better injury luck next year.
This has been a tough year for the Jackets on so many fronts. The good news is that it looks like they'll land a pretty favorable draft pick in the forthcoming draft and have a nice piece to help as they bounce back from this weird year.
When it comes to teams near the bottom of the league, the Jackets are among the most interesting. This is not a group that requires being blown up and starting all over. Even with that in mind, recovering from this hard-luck year won't be easy.
The Jackets are in trouble again with just three wins in their last 10 games. The injury bug has continued to bite with Jeremy Morin's heart ailment the latest in a series of strange happenings in Columbus.
Preseason Power Rankings
Despite the rash of injuries, the Jackets are off to a flying start. Bolstered by strong performances from Sergei Bobrovsky, the Blue Jackets can keep optimism alive.
