The Blue Jackets appear to have resigned themselves to sell mode as top-four defenseman James Wisniewski is reportedly being shopped. If they do sell, they shouldn't sell too much as they hope for better injury luck next year.
This has been a tough year for the Jackets on so many fronts. The good news is that it looks like they'll land a pretty favorable draft pick in the forthcoming draft and have a nice piece to help as they bounce back from this weird year.
When it comes to teams near the bottom of the league, the Jackets are among the most interesting. This is not a group that requires being blown up and starting all over. Even with that in mind, recovering from this hard-luck year won't be easy.
The Jackets are in trouble again with just three wins in their last 10 games. The injury bug has continued to bite with Jeremy Morin's heart ailment the latest in a series of strange happenings in Columbus.
Losing Sergei Bobrovsky for an extended period is going to make a bad season worse more than likely. At least Jackets fans got a good show from Nick Foligno and Ryan Johansen at the All-Star Game.
The Blue Jackets are starting to overcome that mountain of adversity they faced early in the season. They probably won't get out of the hole injuries put them in early, but this team is still fighting.
This year's All-Star Game should have also been a celebration of this franchise's continued resurgence, but it merely provides a distraction from the stinging disappointment this season has been filled with.
The Jackets may have been humbled by the Coyotes recently, but more times than not of late, they've been in games. They're 7-2-1 in their last 10. Even if the playoffs are probably out of reach, they're giving home fans something to cheer about.
It's hard not to look at what the Blue Jackets are doing and marvel. They're 8-1-1 in their past 10 games and don't seem to care if the playoffs look like a pipe dream. There's certainly quite a bit of character there.
The Jackets head into the Christmas break on an 8-1-1 run. There's still a long way for them to go, and more injuries have cropped up, but Columbus is fighting at least.
Preseason Power Rankings
Despite the rash of injuries, the Jackets are off to a flying start. Bolstered by strong performances from Sergei Bobrovsky, the Blue Jackets can keep optimism alive.
