The hockey world got a glimpse of why Red Wings fans are buzzing about rookie Dylan Larkin at the All-Star Game, now we'll find out if the youngster can help propel this team in a tight Atlantic race. He's been a big factor in their success so far.
The Wings are keeping themselves within striking distance of first place in the Atlantic. Not having Niklas Kronwall for a few weeks will hurt, but not as bad with the team getting truly sensational goaltending from Petr Mrazek.
Wins in five of its last seven games has Detroit challenging for the top spot in the Atlantic. But there are some concerns about the Wings’ ability to score of late. Over the last month, they are average just 2.28 goals. They've had to lean too heavily on goaltending to help get them through.
With wins in four of their last five games, the Red Wings have put themselves two points ahead of Montreal for second in the division. Petr Mrazek has been incredible this year with a .930 save percentage in 28 appearances.
The Wings are tied in points with the Canadiens in the Atlantic Division standings thanks to back-to-back wins. Meanwhile, rookie Dylan Larkin continues his meteoric rise to stardom. His 14 goals lead all rookies.
It's been hard to know what to make of the Red Wings this season. They're a team that seems to like to keep games close and thanks to collecting points in 25 of their 34 games, they're right in the mix in that tight Atlantic race, currently in third place.
Finding a way to at least snag a point in the bulk of their games lately has the Wings just two points out of first place in the Atlantic. Since Nov. 16, they've gone 9-1-6.
The Red Wings are one of the NHL's hottest teams, having collected points in 10 consecutive games. Eight games over that span have gone to overtime, with the Red Wings claiming victories in five of them.
The Wings have seen six of their past seven go to overtime, going 3-3 in those OT games. They're keeping games close, but this team needs to start figuring out how to generate goals. Rookie Dylan Larkin leads with 10.
The results are starting to come. They earned two huge wins over top Western clubs St. Louis and Los Angeles last week and are finding more success with Pavel Datsyuk back.
Preseason Power Rankings
Detroit's top line may not have as easy a time scoring as it has early, but young additions Dylan Larkin and Teemu Pulkkinen have softened the blow of Pavel Datsyuk remaining on the shelf to start the season.
