Power Rankings
After a dominant January, the Red Wings have hit a rougher stretch in February with four wins against four losses this month. They're in the midst of one of the toughest segments of their schedule.
The Red Wings have hit a really tough portion of their schedule and haven't started it off on the best foot. They've lost three straight with a six-game road trip through the Western Conference awaiting them.
The Red Wings continue to fly under the radar as one of the league's best teams. They're 11-3-0 since Jan. 1 and they've been without their starting goaltender for a month. They'll keep the Atlantic race interesting.
The Red Wings have essentially been playing with their third string goalie and have won seven of eight since starter Jimmy Howard went down with injury. There's a lot more to that kind of success than resiliency. The Wings appear to be this good.
The All-Star break may have come at an inopportune time for the red-hot Red Wings. Currently riding a five-game winning streak, Detroit trails Tampa by just one point in the Atlantic. Now they have to stay hot.
All of the sudden, the Red Wings are one point away from overtaking the Lightning for the top of the Atlantic Division with a game in hand. They've won seven of their last 10 and haven't missed a beat even with Jimmy Howard injured.
This is the part of the rankings where it gets tricky. The Red Wings await news about Jimmy Howard's groin injury. If he's out an extended period of time, the Wings could be in a world of trouble.
The Red Wings are in the midst of a rough patch. They've built up a pretty nice cushion for themselves, but they have to get right soon. With seven losses in their last 11, four of which came in regulation, they're starting to slip.
The Wings are in a bit of a cold spell with a 3-3-4 record in their past 10. They've also lost more games outside of regulation than any team, thanks in part to a putrid 1-7 shootout record. They're leaving points out there.
The Red Wings are skidding with six straight losses, four of which came in the shootout. The offense is sputtering, however, with six total goals over the disappointing streak.
Preseason Power Rankings
A controversial goal away from at least getting a point against the Ducks, the Wings have looked solid despite missing Pavel Datsyuk. Gustav Nyquist has helped in that department.
