The four-game winning streak is gone but the Red Wings have done what they needed to make this finish a little less stressful. The game at Pittsburgh is a likely playoff preview.
Another game, another Gustav Nyquist goal, up to 27 on the season. The Red Wings had a small skid but are back on track and alone in playoff position now, no tie-breaker needed.
An OT loss Sunday does little to take away from what has been an awesome push despite so many injuries. All of a sudden they hold playoff position.
With three losses in their last four games it's looking more and more like this will be the year the Wings' playoff streak dies. They haven't been able to keep up amid the injuries.
Dear Nicklas Lidstrom: Would you consider putting that No. 5 in the rafters on? Giving up 14 goals in four games doesn't help in a tight playoff race. Signed, the Red Wings.
You'd never guess the Red Wings had a slew of players in Sochi with how strong they have looked since, winning in Montreal and then rolling in Ottawa.
Taking seven of 10 points is a nice way to hit the break, putting the Wings in playoff position for now. The time off might do them some good on the injury front, even with so many in Sochi.
The Red Wings have only one regulation win in their past 10 games and had a rough week, especially on defense, giving up 17 goals and going 1-1-2.
Even with three wins in their past five home games, the Red Wings still have a paltry nine wins in 28 home games. The confounding nature continued with another loss to Florida.
A little luck never hurt and the Red Wings really needed it. Without that fluke goal vs. LA, Red Wings were seconds from losing three straight while scoring just one goal.
Preseason Power Rankings
Outside of a late-game burst in Carolina, the offense is late to the season. Still, a small complaint with wins in two of three.
