PLAYER NOTES

--LW Ville Leino was a healthy scratch for the first time this season. The offensive-minded Leino has just two goals and one assist in 11 games and coach Mike Babcock said he has not been involved enough in the play. His game is to hold onto the puck in the offensive zone and go to the net.

--LW Todd Bertuzzi escaped a potentially serious injury when Rene Bourque's skate clipped him on the left cheek. Bertuzzi needed several stitches to close the cut but returned to finish the game.

--LW Brad May was caught in the right eye by an errant stick while sitting on the bench. May's eye was red, but he said he would be fine.

MEDICAL WATCH

--D Jonathan Ericsson missed Saturday's game because of the flu but should return for Tuesday's contest against Boston.

--C Valtteri Filppula is out until late December with a broken right wrist sustained on Oct. 29. It's a hairline fracture and won't require surgery.

--D Andreas Lilja is on long-term injured reserve to start the season. He has not played since sustaining a concussion on Feb. 28, on a punch from Nashville's Shea Webber. Lilja is skating but has not been cleared for contact, as he continues to experience frequent headaches.

--LW Johan Franzen isn't expected to return until March because of a torn left anterior cruciate ligament, sustained Oct. 8 vs. Chicago. He had surgery on Oct. 16 in Birmingham, Ala.
