--D Sheldon Souray had arthroscopic surgery on his shoulder and will take a month to recover before deciding whether to come back for the final few weeks of this season or shut it down till next September. Odds are he'll be out till next season. If the Oilers are out of the playoff race in mid March, which is entirely possible, if not probable, there's no sense in Souray coming back and risking further injury when there's nothing to play for.
--Shawn Horcoff had his surgery in Cleveland and will need a full six months before he can start working out again. Doctors repaired a torn labrum but didn't have to re-attach a biceps tendon, as they initially feared. "When they got in there the biceps tendon was fine," said Horcoff. "That's good. It makes it an easier recovery."
QUOTE TO NOTE
"We did what we needed to do physically, we were ready to play the game, but every pass we tried to make, it was like we needed lacrosse sticks." -- Craig MacTavish, on his team's inability to generate offence against Calgary.
