Devils report: Inside shots
Playing their first stretch of three games in four nights this season, the Devils go for the three-game sweep Saturday night when they visit the Rangers for the second time in just over a week.
The Rangers blanked the Devils, 2-0, a week ago Thursday in the game that ended New Jersey's nine-game season-opening road trip.
The Devils then lost the home opener to Ottawa, running their losing streak to four games and their season record to 3-6-1. But now, they've won two in a row, beating Tampa Bay 6-1 Wednesday night and pulling out a 3-2 decision over Toronto Friday night.
After the game at Madison Square Garden Friday, the Devils are right back at it Monday night when they host Sidney Crosby and the Penguins at the Prudential Center.
DEVILS 3, MAPLE LEAFS 2: What odds do you think you could have gotten at the start of the year if you said John Madden and Jay Pandolfo would be the Devils' most potent offensive players through the first 12 games of the season?
Think about it. These guys are two of the best defensive players in the game. Their job -- mostly, anyway -- is to put the clamps on the opposition's big guns. Anything they score is gravy.
Well, Pandolfo had his first career hat trick in Wednesday night's win over Tampa Bay and has six goals for the season. Friday night, Madden's short-handed goal snapped a 1-1 tie with 4:12 left and led to the win -- Madden's fifth goal of the season.
Zach Parise added an insurance goal with 2:35 remaining; a goal that came in handy because Toronto scored in the final minute.
