Coyotes report: Inside shots

Inside shots · Roster · Notes, quotes

After breaking even on a Midwest road trip, the Coyotes find themselves in a nice spot to make a move toward the top eight in the Western Conference as they get ready for nine home games during March.

They'll try to take that first step when they face Calgary on Saturday at Jobing.com Arena.

The Coyotes, with 71 points, remain in 10th in the conference, but they are only one point away from the No. 8 spot. They have had some low spots recently and are hoping this home stand can cure some woes.

As they come down the stretch, the power play seems to be picking up steam. Associate coach Rick Tocchet has been working regularly in practice with the unit.

COYOTES 2, BLUES 1: Defenseman Ed Jovanovski and center Niko Kapanen scored power-play goals 44 seconds apart late in the first period. Goalie Ilya Bryzgalov stopped 41 straight shots after giving up a goal in the first and falling behind. He has stopped 100-of-102 shots in his past three starts.
