PLAYER NOTES
--C Nicklas Backstrom is known more for his passing skills, but he's showing more and more that he can score. He did it again with a big goal late in the second period, taking a pass from LW Alex Ovechkin and faking Preds G Dan Ellis right down to his knees, leaving the second-year center an easy empty net.
--RW Alexander Semin had a spectacular game. He got the secondary assist on the winning goal, digging the puck out of the right corner and passing to RW Viktor Kozlov, who set up C Sergei Fedorov for the goal. Semin had eight shots and was everywhere, doing everything. Kozlov also assisted on the other Caps goal.
--LW Donald Brashear and RW Matt Bradley had tough times in their first-period fights that came within seconds. Brashear got knocked down by big Wade Belak and didn't come back. Bradley had to get stitches in his nose after his battle with Jordin Tootoo but did return for some shifts later on.
