VIDEO: David Beckham surprises fans in photo booth
Beckham, who openly passed on being considered to light the Olympic flame at the opening ceremony, was part of an Adidas/Team Great Britain publicity stunt on Monday. While local folk stopped inside of a photo booth at a Westfield mall in Stratford City, Beckham waited in the wings and casually dipped his head inside just as people were getting ready to pose.
Some of the snapshots in the video below are great. For an American equivalent, you'd basically have to picture Derek Jeter swooping into the Palisades Mall and changing lives in the process. Beckham is one of the biggest sports stars in the world, so it goes without saying just how beloved and god-like he is in Great Britain.
The woman and her son at the end of the video, on the elevator, are fantastic.
Props to Beckham for having fun and doing this. Athletes get such good pub out of doing the simplest things for the public, it's surprise you don't see more of this kind of thing, really. LeBron James, take note and get thee behind a Jamba Juice counter ASAP.
