Swiss soccer player kicked out of Games for racist tweet

By Matt Norlander | Staff Writer

Hey, Olympic athletes, can we, you know, tone down the blatant racism and hateful tweets please?

The Games has seen its second competitor banned from competition in less than a week, as Swiss soccer player Michell Morganella took to Twitter following his team's 2-1 loss to South Korea Sunday. According to 101greatgoals.com, Morganella fired off a tweet which when cleaned up reads, "Je les tous Defonce Coréens, allez vous tous Bruler, bande de trisos." That translates to, "I want to beat up all South Koreans. Bunch of mentally handicapped retards."

Nothing neutral about that. Morganella also openly wished for South Koreans to burn themselves, a request clearly made in vile vain. Reuters has since picked up on the story as well.

Here's a screengrab, via 101greatgoals.com, of Morganella's meltdown.

Morganella soon apologized for the comments. Then he deleted his Twitter account. And now he's out of London.

The site, 101greatgoals.com, also shows video of Morganella flopping -- it's not even flopping, it's just plain giving up -- in the South Korea game. He was roundly booed for this, and all that negative response apparently fueled the 23-year-old nitwit to further kill his reputation.

Morganell's crude remarks come five days after Greek triple jumper tweeted a racially tinged message regarding Africans. The Olympics: global, yet not necessarily civil or cultured. Athletes have a way of being idiots, yes.
