One of the most well-known active American Olympians is hoping to compete again in 2018.

Skier Lindsey Vonn, who is unable to compete in the 2014 Games due to a recent ACL injury, said Tuesday morning she has plans to compete at the 2018 Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

“After making the decision not to compete in Sochi, I have actually committed myself to racing through to the next Olympics,” Vonn said on "Today" Tuesday morning, adding, “I'm very motivated. I have a lot that I want to accomplish still. I want to take my time. I felt a little bit rushed last time trying to be back and ready for Sochi.”

Vonn -- who has endured two knee injuries in less than a year -- also said she hopes to begin skiing comptetitively in October, when the World Cup for skiing begins. She underwent surgery on her right ACL nearly two weeks ago.

The 29-year-old Vonn currently owns 59 wins in World Cup competition; that's the second-highest total in the event's history for women. Austrian Annemarie Moser-Proell holds the record with 62. Vonn's made no secret of her desire to eventually usurp that record. A medal at the 2018 Games would earn Vonn the title of oldest woman to ever win an Alpine ski medal.
