By now the jet lag has worn off and the anticipation has reached a peak; the American and Canadian men are ready for the Olympic tournament to begin.

The USA, which finished with a silver medal in 2010 back in Vancouver, hasn't been coy about their goal this time, the gold. Even before the team was assembled, the players were talking about how they had unfinished business when all the team hopefuls met in Washington DC. The silver was great but it wasn't gold.

You better believe the American team feels they can do it. Captain Zach Parise, alternate Dustin Brown and Patrick Kane all expressed this feeling to the media in Sochi on Tuesday.

As for the Canadians, they're feeling pretty too, no doubt, but their confidence is a bit more of the quiet variety. Patrice Bergeron couldn't help but spill the "take it one game at a time" line not once but twice. In other words, the Canadians are all business.

The men's hockey action begins on Wednesday at noon ET with games between Sweden and the Czech Republic as well as Switzerland vs. Latvia. The Americans begin on Thursday at 7:30 a.m. ET against Slovakia while Canada faces Norway at noon.
