USA in two of top three women's bobsleigh spots; Lolo Jones 11th

By Matt Norlander | College Basketball Writer

With a composite team of 1:54.89 after the first two of four runs on Tuesday, the American team of Elana Myers and Lauryn Williams are in first place in the women's two-person bobsleigh. They lead Canada's duo (Kaillie Humphries and Heather Moyse) by 0.23 seconds.

"The nerves definitely overtook me. All day long I've been nervous, well before we got here," Williams told reporters afterward. "When I got on that line, I knew something good was going to happen because I was jumping out of my skin and that's a feeling I hadn't had for a while in track and field, knowing what that feeling means, it means going fast."

The American duo of Jamie Greubel and Aja Evans had a bumpy go of it but still managed to placed third and hold a 0.49 advantage on the Belgian team in fourth place. Germany sits in fifth, 1.14 seconds off gold medal pace. Grueubel and Evans are 0.56 seconds behind Myers and Williams.

Lolo Jones and teammate Jazmine Fenlator are 1.84 seconds behind the pace and currently in 11th. It's unlikely they'll be able to medal.

"Everything went as expected," Jones told the Associated Press after the second run. "We knew we would have to fight. We knew it would be four tough runs."

The Americans are in good place to win gold -- and at the very least medal -- in women's bobsleigh.

Meyers won bronze at the 2010 Vancouver Games a as "brakeman" -- the person who rides in the back of the sled. This time around she's the pilot. Humphries took gold in 2010, so the final should bring plenty of drama.

Runs 3 and 4 -- the finals -- of women's bobsled will commence at 11:15 a.m. ET on Wednesday.
