Defending champ Hungary sinks U.S. in Olympic water polo wire reports

LONDON -- Norbert Hosnyanszky scored three times to power defending champion Hungary to a dominating 11-6 win over the United States in the last preliminary-stage game for the Americans at the London Olympics.

After two losses to open the games, Hungary has finally found the form that won it the last three Olympic titles. Zoltan Szesci made eight saves in Hungary's strongest defensive performance of the tournament.

Monday's game was a rematch of the 2008 Olympic final in Beijing, which Hungary won 14-10.

With the Americans' second straight loss, the U.S. finishes play in Group B even with Hungary with six points, but behind in the head-to-head tiebreaker.

The U.S. has already qualified for the tournament. If Montenegro beats winless Britain later Monday, the Americans will be the group's No. 4 seed and play Group A winner Croatia in the quarterfinals.
