BIRMINGHAM, England -- American gymnasts continued their run of success, adding two gold medals at the World Cup final Saturday.
Alicia Sacramone won vault while Chellsie Memmel took gold on uneven bars. Diego Hypolito of Brazil won the men's floor exercise; Yuri Van Gelder of the Netherlands won on still rings; and Xiao Qin of China took gold on the pommel horse.
The World Cup final continues Sunday with the men's vault, high bar and parallel bars, and the women's floor exercise and balance beam.
Memmel, 16, helped the United States win the 2003 world championships and also won gold on uneven bars, sharing the world title with teammate Hollie Vise. She was an alternate for the Athens Olympic team after missing most of the year with a broken bone in her left foot.
Memmel scored a 9.625 Saturday, beating world bronze medalist Beth Tweddle.
Sacramone, 17, scored a 9.481 on vault, beating Olympic gold medalist Monica Rosu, bronze medalist Anna Pavlova and 2000 Olympic champion Elena Zamolodchikova. Sacramone has now won three golds and two silvers on vault in international competitions since March.
American gymnasts won nine medals at the Athens Olympics, more than the last two games combined. Since 2001, they've won 54 medals at the Olympics, Pan American Games and world championships.
