Sweden easily wins women's amateur tourney in Australia

ADELAIDE, Australia -- Sweden completed a wire-to-wire win in the Espirito Santo women's amateur team golf tournament Saturday, claiming the trophy by 12 strokes over Spain.

Sweden led by no fewer than eight strokes after all four rounds of the tournament over two courses -- the par-72 West and par-73 East at The Grange.

The Swedes finished with a 19-under par total of 561. Spain was at 7-under 573, followed by the third-place United States at 5-under 575.

Canada was in fourth at 3-over 583, followed a stroke back by Japan.

On Saturday on the West Course, Anna Nordqvist shot a 3-under 69, Caroline Hedwall 70 and Pernilla Lindberg 73 for Sweden. The top two scores in each count towards the country's total.

Hedwall finished at 10-under in her four rounds for the best individual total.

All three Americans shot sub-par rounds Saturday on the West Course -- Amanda Blumenherst (68), Tiffany Joh (69) and Alison Walshe (70).

The event is held every two years.
