CLEVELAND -- Gary Matthews Jr. and Mark Teixeira each hit two-run homers in the seventh inning as the Texas Rangers rallied against Cleveland's faulty bullpen for a 9-8 win over the Indians on Wednesday night.
Teixeira connected off Jeriome Robertson (1-1), and two batters later, Matthews hit his off Rick White as Texas improved to 5-5 on a 14-game road trip.
Alfonso Soriano and Brad Fullmer hit solo shots for the Rangers, who lead the majors with 126 home runs.
Soriano's 16th homer, a two-out shot in the eighth inning, set a single-season club record for a Texas second baseman. Julio Franco hit 15 in 1991.
Reliever Ron Mahay (2-0) struck out four in 2 1/3 innings as the Rangers moved back into first place in the AL West, one game ahead of Oakland. Full story
Twins 12, Royals 0
MINNEAPOLIS -- Kyle Lohse threw Minnesota's team-record third straight complete-game shutout, leading the Twins over the crumbling Kansas City Royals.
Lohse's six-hitter came after Brad Radke tossed a four-hitter and Johan Santana turned in a three-hitter to start the series.
This was the first time in Twins history they shut out an opponent in three straight games.
The Royals, who lost their eighth straight and 13th out of 14, have one run in their last 37 innings. They're off Thursday, then play a weekend series at Baltimore.
Devil Rays 13, Orioles 3
BALTIMORE -- Rob Bell took a two-hitter into the eighth inning, and Toby Hall and Damian Rolls each had three RBI to lead the Tampa Bay Devil Rays past the punchless Baltimore Orioles.
Rolls and Aubrey Huff both had three hits for the Devil Rays, who earned a split of the four-game series after losing a doubleheader Monday. Tampa Bay is 9-0-2 in its last 11 series, including 5-0-2 on the road.
The only player to reach base against Bell (3-3) over the first seven innings was Brian Roberts, who hit doubles in the first and third. Bell retired 13 straight batters before walking Larry Bigbie on a 3-2 pitch to open the eighth.
After Bell went to 1-0 on Jerry Hairston, Devil Rays manager Lou Piniella pulled the right-hander and summoned Jesus Colome, who yielded a single to Hairston before striking out the side.
