SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- The San Francisco 49ers waived safety Tony Parrish, who once started 121 consecutive games before falling out of favor this season.
The 49ers released Parrish to make room for veteran linebacker Jay Foreman, who was signed to fill in while starting linebacker Derek Smith is out with a hamstring injury.
Parrish, who played four seasons with Chicago before signing with the 49ers in 2002, started every game in his first 7½ NFL seasons before breaking his leg midway through last year. He was a second-team All-Pro in 2003, when he tied for the league lead with nine interceptions.
But Parrish lost his starting job in San Francisco to newcomer Mark Roman six weeks into this season, and was inactive in the 49ers' last three games.
Parrish declined to criticize the 49ers despite his diminishing role behind Roman and Keith Lewis, who took the other starting safety job away from Mike Adams. Full story
TV changes: Dolphins-Bills, Eagles-Giants
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- The starting time for the Miami Dolphins' game at Buffalo against the Bills on Dec. 17 has been moved to 4:05 p.m. ET.
Also moved, from 1 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. ET, was the Philadelphia Eagles at the New York Giants.
The game between AFC East rivals Miami and Buffalo also was initially scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. The changes, announced Tuesday, came a day after NBC moved the Dec. 17 game between San Diego and Kansas City to its nighttime slot.
The moves are part of the network's flexible scheduling, a feature of the new television contract with the NFL that's meant to ensure contending teams play in prime time late in the season.
Seattle places Scobey on IR
KIRKLAND, Wash. -- The Seattle Seahawks put reserve running back Josh Scobey on injured reserve, after the special teams standout broke a bone in his upper arm on Sunday night.
Seattle also released quarterback Gibran Hamdan.
Scobey started the season as Seattle's kickoff returner, before the team signed Willie Ponder and eventually settled on Nate Burleson as its returner. Scobey was a strong special teams contributor, tied for the team lead with 12 special-teams tackles.
"He's such a tough guy that I thought he was kind of indestructible," Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren said on Monday. "But he took a shot."
