SHANGHAI, China (AP) -- Chinese international Li Jinyu scored in the first half Wednesday as Shandong Luneng held on to defeat BEC Tero Sasana of Thailand 1-0 in the Asian Champions League.
Li, regarded as one of China's best up and coming strikers, found the net in the 29th minute before a hometown crowd in the northern city of Jinan.
Chinese teams have found unexpected success in the Asian Champions League so far, despite China's elimination from World Cup qualifying and chaos in the domestic Super League that has forced a one-month postponement of the season's start.
Shandong, coached by Serbia's Ljubisa Tumbakovic, beat J-League champions Yokohama 1-0 last week. The same day, Shenzhen Jianlibao downed Jubilo Iwata of Japan, also 1-0.
Indonesia's PSM Makassar and Yokohama Marinos of Japan were to complete the Group F matches later Wednesday.
