COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Kei Kamara scored his second goal of the season and the Columbus Crew beat the New York Red Bulls 1-0 Saturday night, ending Juan Pablo Angel's goal streak at six games.

Kamara went above a New York defender to head home a crossing pass from second-half substitute Andy Herron in the 69th minute.

Angel's run ended one game short of tying the MLS record. He was held to one shot in the first half that was deflected before it could reach goalkeeper Will Hesmer.

"He lost a lot of balls. The service to him wasn't good," New York coach Bruce Arena said. "Their center backs did a good job on Angel."

Crew coach Sigi Schmid selected Herron off the bench to replace starter Jacob Thomas just two minutes before Herron supplied Kamara with the game-winning assist.

"Sometimes you get lucky when you make a substitution like that," Schmid said. "Andy hit a great cross."

Schmid also spared no praise for the 22-year-old Kamara, a native of Sierra Leone.

"He scored on a great header," Schmid said. "I thought he played very well. I thought this was Kei Kamara's best game."

The victory gave Columbus (4-4-6) its third straight win and a four-game unbeaten streak. The Red Bulls fell to 6-4-3 and have one win in their past five games.

The Crew's attackers mustered several scoring chances, including five corner kicks during the first 16 minutes.

Kamara nearly scored in the sixth minute when he fired a left-footed strike into the side netting from a tight angle inside the penalty area.

Thomas shot just over the upper-right corner of the goal after a hard run in the 27th minute left him one-on-one against goalkeeper Ronald Waterreus.

New York's best scoring opportunity of the first half came in the 38th minute when midfielder Dave van den Bergh hit the side netting of the goal from just outside the 6-yard box.
