TORONTO -- Brazilian midfielder Fred scored in the eighth minute Saturday to give D.C. United a 1-0 win, increasing Toronto FC's scoreless drought to an MLS-record 642 minutes.

D.C. United scored on its first attack when a long ball from the defense was headed by Nick Addlery into the path of Fred, who raced into the penalty area and fired low past Kenny Stamatopoulos for his fourth goal of the season. The goal gave D.C. United (12-6-3) its fifth straight league win.

Toronto (5-12-5), which passed the previous mark of 557 minutes set by Real Salt Lake two years ago, extended its winless skid to eight games.

Toronto had a quick start and had two chances in the opening five minutes. Todd Dunivant curled a shot over the bar from 20 yards, then shortly after a shot from Colin Samuel was deflected wide.

In the seventh minute, a volley from Maurice Edu was stopped by D.C. goalkeeper Troy Perkins, but a minute later Toronto was behind.

Dunivant had Toronto's best chance of the second half with 20 minutes left, but Perkins rushed out of the goal to make a block.
