FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- An own goal off the foot of New York Red Bulls defender Carlos Mendes helped the New England Revolution earn a 2-1 victory Saturday night.

Taylor Twellman's 11th goal of the season, in the first minute of the second half, pulled the Eastern Conference-leading Revolution into a 1-1 tie with New York, which had taken the lead in the 30th minute on Jozy Altidore's eighth goal of the season.

New England's winning goal came in the 80th minute when Mendes -- along the right sideline -- sent a 40-yard ball back toward Red Bulls goalkeeper Jon Conway, intending for a goal kick.

It was the second bad ball bounce against New York, as New England goalkeeper Matt Reis took a goal kick 40 seconds into the second half, which Twellman trapped at the Red Bulls' 20-yard line and beat two defenders with his shot to the lower left side.

Twellman has three goals in the past four matches.

New England improved to 12-5-6 on the season and extended its unbeaten streak against New York in Foxborough to 10 matches (8-0-2).

The Red Bulls (10-9-3) have dropped six straight matches to New England.
