FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Khano Smith scored in the 88th minute to lift the New England Revolution to a 1-0 victory over the Colorado Rapids on Saturday.
New England (14-6-7), which had already clinched a playoff spot, is 4-1-1 in its last six matches.
Colorado (7-12-8) is now winless in its last five (0-3-2) and has scored just three goals in that span.
Smith scored his second goal of the season when he gathered a through ball from Shalrie Joseph, outran a pair of Colorado defenders down the left side and beat Rapids goalie Bouna Coundoul.
New England had two good scoring chances during the second half, as Andy Dorman had a deflected drive stopped by Coundoul in the 55th minute and Smith had a left-footed point-blank shot sail over the crossbar in the 82nd minute.
Colorado had two second-half scoring chances, a left-footed drive by Mehdi Ballouchy in the 61st minute and a corner kick by Terry Cooke that Dorman cleared off the goal line in the 71st.
