2017 Champions League semifinal draw: Real Madrid-Atletico, Juventus-Monaco
The road to Cardiff is now known with three matches remaining
The Champions League semifinal draw took place on Friday morning in Lyon, France, and we now know who will play who on the short remaining road to Cardiff. Real Madrid, Juventus, Atletico Madrid and Monaco were paired, and here his how the draw played out, which includes a derby.
Real Madrid vs. Atletico Madrid
Monaco vs. Juventus
First off, the Madrid derby is the gift that keeps on giving. These two have met in two of the last four finals (both won by Real MadrId), and now they meet again in an intense two-leg affair. This means that they will meet for the fourth straight Champions League, with Real winning in each instance.
As for Monaco and Juventus, both will be pleased to not have drawn Real Madrid, and the French side has the capability to knock out the Italians, but there is no doubt the expectation is for a Real Madrid-Juve final, but at this stage anything can happen. Just ask Bayern Munich, who many expected to make the final a year ago but were knocked out by Atleti.
The first legs of the semifinals will be on May 2-3, while the return legs will take place on May 9-10. The final will be in Cardiff, Wales on June 3.
