Argentina superstar Lionel Messi is facing a two-match suspension for foul language and could miss Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier with Bolivia.
The attacker was caught on camera insulting an assistant referee on Friday in the 1-0 win over Chile, but Messi wasn’t shown a card for his actions.
According to Argentine paper Clarin, FIFA stepped in on Monday and is looking into his actions, with the chance of him being suspended before Tuesday’s game, however unlikely that may seem given the timing. FIFA claims Messi used “offensive words” toward the official.
If he is suspended for two matches, he will also miss the Aug. 31 qualifier against Uruguay. If he is suspended, which is probably warranted considering what he said to the assistant ref, Argentina will be down the world’s to player and its key contributor. Messi leads Argentina with four goals in qualifying.
