The last time Lionel Messi stepped up to the penalty kick spot against Chile’s Claudio Bravo, it was the worst day he had ever experienced as a professional. It came last summer in the Copa America Centenario final in New Jersey when Messi skied his penalty kick into the stands at MetLife Stadium, as Chile took home the title and Messi announced his “retirement” from international soccer.

On Thursday, Messi got another chance. In World Cup Qualifying, Messi put Argentina up 1-0 in their match by finishing a penalty with class past his former Barcelona teammate. After Angel Di Maria was taken down in the box, Messi stepped up and sent Bravo the wrong way, getting just a little bit of revenge.

Take a look:

Great penalty, and that was a big one in a crucial game. Bravo tried to trick his friend before the kick and it didn’t work.

Argentina and Chile are looking to get up the CONMEBOL standings with a win in this one. And with that goal, it’s advantage Argentina.
