Barcelona announced on Monday that star attacker Lionel Messi is suffering from 'hamstring trouble' ahead of Argentina's World Cup qualifier with Uruguay on Thursday. His club said a report on tests performed on Monday, approved by Barca and the Argentina soccer federation, confirmed that he hurt his left hamstring in Sunday's win over Athletic Bilbao.

Barca said he is traveling to Argentina to join the national team but whether he plays or not depends on how his recovery progresses.

Messi is set to make his return to the national team after retiring from international duty after the Copa America this summer. But his retirement did not see him miss a game or a call-up with the two-time World Cup winners.
