Barcelona vs. Athletic Bilbao score: Messi free kick goal sends Barca to quarters

Lionel Messi scored a free kick goal for the third straight match on Wednesday, and this one sent Barcelona past Athletic Bilbao and into the Copa del Rey quarterfinals. Barca won 3-1 on Wednesday in the Copa del Rey Round of 16 second leg, advancing 4-3 on aggregate.

Down 2-1 after last week's loss at Bilbao, Barca took a while to get going but went up 1-0 on 35 minutes thanks to this magical goal from Luis Suarez.

Neymar then made it 2-0 early in the second half from the penalty kick spot, ending a goal drought of over 1,000 minutes in the process, before Bilbao answered back in the 51st minute thanks to Enric Saborit's header goal.

The match continued on 3-3 on aggregate and appeared destined for extra time before Messi showed off his fantastic free kick skill, sending the ball to the far post and freezing Gorka Iraizoz.

The win moves Barca into to the quarterfinals and sees the team secure its first win since Dec. 21.
