Barcelona welcomed Leganes to the Camp Nou on Sunday in La Liga action and looked like it was on the verge on an embarrassing draw with an uninspiring performance. It was still an uninspired effort, but after Neymar won a late penalty kick, Lionel Messi finished it in the 90th minute to send Barca to a 2-1 victory to keep the club in second place, one point behind Real Madrid with two more matches played.

Here’s what to know.

Game-changing moment

Neymar got around his defender late and drew a penalty kick that would decide the result. Messi took it, and he finished with power to the left side of the net in the 90th minute.

Huge concern

Barca’s horrible performance against PSG midweek in the Champions League carried over to this one. The team was sloppy in the middle, poor at the back and frankly was fortunate to get a 2-1 win. A draw seemed like a fair result as lowly Leganes looked sharp and gave Barca trouble.

Things looked on the way up when Barca scored just four minutes in with Luis Suarez setting up Messi, but from there Barca lacked sharpness, nearly conceded more goals and was on the brink of another embarrassing result. Remember, the first time these two played, Barca won 5-1. This time around, it looked as if Barca could lose.

What the result means

Barca remains in second and takes on Atletico Madrid on Sunday. If it plays like it did Sunday, don’t expect a victory against Atletico.

Leganes remains in 17th, two points above the relegation zone.
